Cosplaying is no fun for Females at Indian Comic Cons

Comic Con events have gathered significant buzz across Indian metro cities in the past few years and like any public event such gathering it is not just restricted to comic lovers in India. So the pervy kinds also make sure to register their presence to have some fun ogling at girls around and take advantage of their biggest cover available - CROWD.

I have attended 3 Comic Con events in Mumbai and Pune and my observation was that many of the so called comic fans have seldom read comics growing up and a large section of the visitors have probably known about superheroes and comic characters only via movies. Apart from the regular flea market stuff that sells in these events there is limited presence of wells known personalities too and cosplaying fans add the much needed zing to some really dull proceedings.

If there is female cosplayer even with slightest hint of revealing outfit, she is going to have some creepy experience that leaves them shaken and it discourages enthusiastic female fans from participating further. Then people crib about the lack of cosplayers in Indian comic con festivals. If one thinks we can have all the eye candy that dazzles comic con events abroad we are mistaken and equally responsible for the dearth of quality in our desi version of comic cons.

Read through some of the really embarrassing experiences narrated by female cosplayers on a scoopwhoop article here which would give you an idea as to why molestation in public places prevails like a norm and presence of bouncers doesn't make much difference until we learn to respect personal space of another individual whether it be a guy or a girl. Schools teach kids about good and bad touch, I think it is time we groom them to know how to behave in public places, especially with girls.

History behind design of Bat Suits

Batman as a comic book character has come across generations and has donned many suits from the time it has made an appearance in movies, Batman's character has being envisioned in different forms in both motion pictures when it first began it's journey on the big screen in 1940 and different versions of animated series across various countries.

I grew up watching Tim Burton's Batman on VHS tapes during my summer vacations and could not get enough of the dark gothic set up in which those stories were told, moving on to the forgettable adaption of Joel Schumacher's bat movies, Christopher Nolan breathed fresh life into this character keeping it as realistic as possible and bringing the vulnerability back to Batman's character which went missing.

Batman cannot be a match to gadget and techno bling of Tony Stark aka Iron Man, however the master of dark has enough tricks up the sleeve to hunt the bad guys in the night while protecting Gotham city.

Read this article from nVision app site which goes through the entire history of Bat Suits and another video feature from YouTube that discusses same topic

Batman of Shanghai

Check out this animation video that featured on cartoon network, an interesting rendition of Batman fighting over a scroll stolen first by Cat Woman and then Bane crashes into the party, Batsy however manages to emerge from the shadows to win this three way fight. I liked the concept on which the whole video has being set, which blends well with the story of a short feature, Bats goes East!

The Spy who sucked at words

For those who do not know that an Indian version of James Bond existed in the comics world apart from the alternate avatar of the most loved spy seen during 80's in some notable Hindi movies and other B and C grade movies. My dad used to tell me about the thrill youngster's got going to a bond movie in those single screen cinemas during his teenage days, was not just limited to watching his dare devilry on screen, but also catching a glimpse of kissing and intimate scenes, a role played by flowers in hindi movies.

India Book House with Star comics had one of the versions of bond comics, down south there were some other publishers who had got rights to original illustrations which they translated into their own version of hilarious English which is worth reading through, the queen could have punished bond for such blasphemy.

Check out this link from iO9.com which shares some of these comic strips of James Bond, I could think of some hindi dubbed bond flicks which could equally match up with cheesy dialogues in comparison to these comics.

Watchmen - Graphic Novel review

http://www.watchmenmovieposters.com/watchmen.jpg

The movie Watchmen has generated quite a buzz in USA and has topped the charts post it’s release this March, by the trailers the movie seems to be slick in its direction by the 300 movie director Zack Synders, I was curious to know more about the watchmen comic series before I get to watch this movie.

I managed to get a PDF copy of this novel from the internet, and I am finding it hard to conclude after reading it, whether it is actually a comic series or a novel woven beautifully in graphics by Alan Moore, if you expect “Watchmen” to be a super-hero story, it is not, even though it involves a group of crime fighting super-heroes, the story runs deep down their super lives, I was amazed to find out how gripping the story is in spite of this comic series released by DC comics way back in 1986.

The story starts with the murder of ex-watchmen, Blake-The Comedian, another group member Rorschach begins investigating his death, Rorschach prefers talking less and  breaking more bones, that’s why most of the criminals fear him, then Miss Jupiter is the female vigilante, who takes over the reins of super girl role from her mother, Jon, the blue guy, who stays with Miss Jupiter in a Military research center away from the world, is termed the “Living Superman” by USA, then there is Nite Owl, who has now retired and leads a quiet life, and Veidt who is a business tycoon now, banked heavily on his watchmen image and commercialized the whole super hero thing.

The story of this comic series takes you through the actual pain of being a superhero, there are many witty lines by Rorschach in this comic series, which force you to think and many of them are applicable to our current times as well, the mystery in this comic series revolves around a conspiracy to set up members from the watchmen team by either killing them or locking them up behind bars, there are multiple stories running alongside the main storyline of the watchmen characters, which take you back to the lives of these vigilantes, how they choose to be superheroes and why they left the watchmen gang, since the members of watchmen group carried ahead the legacy of the  “minutemen”.

Spidey and Batman are close as superhero characters of what is watchmen actually go through, their public life is much darker and painful than that of Mr Parker or Mr. Wayne, many ironical statements that come in this series like, do the superheroes actually need a high tech gadgetry to fight petty criminals like burglars and street goons, and our favorite super characters never run out of baddies, but watchmen actually do, which prompts for the group breaking up, members splitting up and now they are brought back together by an impending fear lurking on all of them.

I was enthralled by the comic narration of a complex yet interesting story of the “Watchmen series” eager to watch it now on the big screen, though I have heard it has not received a positive response from the audiences in USA, still it is not going to be a global hit like the movie 300.
