Pune’s Rickshaw Menace Continues…..
Pune is no more a sleepy town, its a fast growing city and would encounter the same fate as that of Bangalore’s traffic woes and unplanned growth that chokes the city’s resources, well to add over this the rickshaw goons hold traveler’s to ransom on pretext of not getting return fare, do not go to short distance areas. Recently they crossed all levels of arrogance and leaving humanity behind.
I stay at Hermes heritage complex which is quiet big and we had a rickshaw stand where the rickshaw’s used to come inside the complex if required as the walking distance to the gate is quiet an asking for senior citizens and ill people living in few wings inside the complex.
These rickshaw drivers would be mostly the same one’s who would be common to that stand and charge exorbitant rates for just going to Gold Adlabs multiplex and just behind is my office at marigold park, as per meter it would roughly come to 15 to 17 Rs, but these goons charge you between 23 to 30 Rs for going this short distance which is of just 10 mins distance by rickshaw.
Few days back a person in our complex was suffering from heart ailment and maybe he got a heart attack so his son called in a rickshaw from the gate stand, that bastard was cribbing to take that critically ill person to a hospital just 5 mins distance from Hermes heritage to the hospital at shastri nagar chowk.
By the time another rickshaw came in from the gate and took the uncle to the hospital, he expired and later their family members were furious on what happened, and few of their near and dear ones bashed up that arrogant, rascal bloody rickshaw driver and broke the whole rickshaw shed and stand outside the complex.
Now no rickshaw is called inside the complex, the official stand is removed, those bastard’s had written at the stand “Ithe kuthla hi bhada asel te ghyava lagel, anytha rickshaw lavaychi nahi”, which means they have to take any fare of any place, once they park their vehicle at that stand.
I think nothing in this world can change the attitude of rickshaw drivers in this city, there have being attempts to improve public transport in the city, however they all seem to be be half hearted attempts, sky bus project, BRTS, have arrived but seem to be a distant dream.
